MARCH 2011 NEWSLETTER | | | | Can you believe we are half way through this term already? There has certainly been plenty happening and still lots to come so here is our mid term wrap up. GALA DAY:WHEN: 9AM TO 1PM SUNDAY 3RD APRIL WHERE: WARKWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL WHAT: FAMILY FUN DAY OUT Bouncy Castle Fire Engine Rides Live Music Quick Fire Raffles Games Stalls Keep an eye out for committee notices regarding parent help on the day, donations of goods required and other gala information. This is our one BIG event for the year, it is going to be fantastic and we need every kindy family to get behind us and make it HUGE! | | | v Portrait Photography: Kirsty Pattinson will be returning to kindergarten in the next few weeks bringing back the wonderful photos she took of our children at play last week. These portraits are in black and white and come mounted ready to frame. The cost is $15 per photo and there is no obligation to buy. You are able to take the shot home and show your whanau before deciding; re orders of bigger sizes are also available. Kindy gets a percentage of the sales so it is a nice fundraiser too. | | | | | | | v Session times: A reminder that children must be collected on time every day, otherwise our teacher/student ratios will be over limit and the teachers are unable to have their well deserved lunch break (they only get half an hour and if they go to lunch late they still have to back on the floor teaching at their rostered time). We appreciate your help with this. | | | v Donations/Fees: Thank you to everyone who has paid their donations and fees. We are mid way through the term so we would like to remind everyone who has not paid that we must have all fees paid by the last week of term. Donations are not compulsory but we due to a 15% cut in funding from the government this year we REALLY need to have as great a percentage of donations paid as possible. Kindergarten depends on donations and fees to meet our day to day running expenses and we appreciate you supporting your children and their kindergarten by paying these. | | v Library Visits: These have resumed on Fridays. We need parent help to assist with this walk down to the Primary School to visit the reception classes, library and playground. This is a great trip which the children really enjoy and we appreciate your help in volunteering to go with one teacher and a small group of children. You and your child are welcome to attend even if Friday is not your usual session day, just keep an eye on the notice board and you will see when your child will be going. | | | v Notice Board: Please make sure you read the notice board every time you come into kindy. It is updated every Monday, but things are also added during the week as required so to make sure you know what’s happening; please give it a quick glance each time you come in. | | v Spare Clothes: Autumn seems to be here with very variable weather. Can you please check that your child’s kindy bag is equipped for “all seasons”. Make sure they have a sweatshirt or jumper for cool mornings, and they still need sunhats and lighter clothes for the hot middle part of the day. A complete change of clothes (including underwear) is important too as kindy is a dirty, messy and wet place! | | | v Sickness: Watch out; watch out chicken pox, cough and cold bugs and head lice are all about! Please ensure that your child does not come to kindy if they are unwell. Please don’t bring children to kindy who have vomited in the last 24 hours, or who have untreated head lice. Kindy is a very “close” environment and bugs get spread very easily so we appreciate your help in containing outbreaks. | | COMMITTEE NEWS v Committee AGM This was held on Wednesday 2nd March at 7 pm. Congratulations to our new look team leading the parents committee. We have Vanessa Cleland (Alice’s mum) as President, Tania Casey (Charlie’s mum) as Vice president. Fleur Leabourn (Marcus’ mum) steps up as Secretary, while Heather Free (Isabel’s mum) has taken on the role as Treasurer. We also welcome Phuong Graham (Thomas’ mum) to the committee and thank Martin Casey (Charlie’s Dad) for continuing as Grants Officer, and the wonderful Karen Dravitski who is staying on the committee for a wee bit longer helping Heather with her transition to Treasurer. This amazing committee has already done a ton of work towards the gala and with another amazing team of parents assisting them (Shelley, Amanda, Vicky just to name a few plus lots of past committee members) the Gala is looking to be one of the best organised events ever seen at Mahurangi Kindergarten! | | | v Chocolates: We have only one more box left to sell if you are able to take a box and sell them that would be great. If you have taken a box already can you please keep selling (or eating!) and return the money to kindy so we can have this project all wrapped up before the end of term. Term Dates 2011 Term 1: 24 January to 15 April Term 2: 2 May to 15 July Term 3: 1 August to 7 October Term 4: 25 October to 20 December |
